New Bill Aims To Strip Impeached Lawmakers Of Pensions

A new measure could ensure that crooked lawmakers don’t collect a dime of taxpayer funded pensions. The measure was supported by local State Rep. Bob Flider and has already passed the House. According to Flider, the bill would ensure that those who are impeached by the House and convicted and removed from office by the Illinois Senate cannot be eligible for retirement benefits. Under the current constitution, the General Assembly cannot diminish or impair retirement benefits, like those former Governor Blagojevich has accrued. This legislation is exactly like House Bill 377, which was sponsored by Flider, and passed the house in March of 2009, but did not pass the Senate.
