Traffic Updates and Street Closures



 

 Street Closures For Decatur and Macon County: 9-9-11

Otto Baum Company, Inc. will be working in the 400 block of North Water Street replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk.  This work will cause the closure of the south bound lane of the 400 block of North Water Street starting at 3:30 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2011, continuing to approximately 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011.  The north bound lane will remain open during this work.  Please contact D J Morgeson at Otto Baum Company at 876-1000 for further information.

City of Decatur crews will be working at 3400 East Orchard Drive, between South 33rd Street and South 34th Place, installing culvert, beginning Thursday, September 8, 2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the total closureof the 3400 block of East Orchard Drive, between South 33rd Street and South 34th Place, starting at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011, continuing to approximately 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2011.  A detour route is in effect and is as follows:  Orchard Drive to 33rd Street to Fulton Drive to 34th Place to Orchard Street and Orchard Street to 34th Place to Fulton Drive to 33rd Street to Orchard Drive.  Motorists should slow down and use extreme caution around the work zone.  Please contact Rick Baker at the Streets and Sewers Division, at 875-4820, for further details.
 

Norfolk Southern will be working in Faries Parkway, from Brush College Road to Samuels Street, reconstructing the railroad crossings, beginning Monday, September 12, 2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the total closure of Faries Parkway, from Brush College Road to Samuels Street, starting at 7:00 a.m., Monday, September 12, 2011, continuing to approximately 7:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011.  Detour routes will be in place and are as follows:  Eastbound traffic will use Garfield Avenue to 27th Street to Hubbard Avenue to Brush College Road. Westbound traffic will use Brush College north to Hubbard Avenue to 27th Street to Garfield Avenue.  NOTE:  Hubbard Avenue is restricted by one lane so be prepared for delays.  Motorists should slow down and use extreme caution through all work zones.  Please contact the City of Decatur’s Public Works Department, at 424-2747, for further details.


Kelly General Construction of Decatur, Inc. will be working in the eastbound lane of Hubbard Avenue, between 27th Street and Brush College Road, building 2 entrances for Caterpillar, beginning Wednesday, September 7, 2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the eastbound lane of Hubbard Avenue, between 27th Street and Brush College Road, to be closed starting at 7:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2011, continuing to approximately 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011, for 3 months. The westbound lane will remain open and the bi-directional turn lane will be used for eastbound traffic.  Motorists should slow down, use extreme caution and expect possible delays.  Please contact John Wright at the Kelly Group, at 422-1800, for further details.


Otto Baum Company, Inc. will be working in North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Eldorado Street to Clay Street, doing concrete patching work, beginning Friday, August 19, 2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the closure of the western, southbound lane of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Eldorado Street to Clay Street, for saw cutting, starting at 7:00 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2011.  When saw cut is complete on the southbound lane Otto Baum will move to the eastern, northbound lane of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Eldorado Street to Clay Street, for saw cutting.  When saw cutting is complete both outside, northbound and outside southbound lanes of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Eldorado Street to Clay Street, will be closed to approximately 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2011.  One lane southbound and one lane northbound will remain open during the construction period.  Motorists should slow down and use extreme caution through the work zone.  Please contact Nathan Hale, at Otto Baum Company, Inc., at 876-1000, for further details.

  
Gooch Painting will be working in the eastern most, southbound lane of the 100 block of South Main Street, from Prairie Street to midblock, painting the exterior of the building, beginning Thursday, September 1, 2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the closure of the eastern most, southbound lane of the 100 block of South Main Street, from Prairie Street to mid-block, starting at 7:00 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011, continuing to approximately 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2011.  The sidewalk will remain taped off but will not be closed due to a lift being used at the location.  Pedestrians and motorists should use extreme caution through the work zone.  Please contact Robert Gooch, at Gooch Painting, at 623-297-5794, for further details.
  

 

City of Decatur crews will be working in the eastbound lane of the 800 block of West Wood Street, between Haworth Street and Pine Street, performing brick maintenance on the road, beginning Tuesday, September 6,  2011, weather permitting.  This work will cause the eastbound lane of the 800 block of West Wood Street to be closed between Haworth Street and Pine Streetstarting at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011, continuing to approximately 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2011.  Eastbound traffic should use West Main to Haworth, south to Decatur Street, east to Monroe Street, north to Wood Street.  The westbound lane of West Wood Street will remain opento through traffic.  Please contact Doug Funkhouser at the Streets and Sewers Division of Public Works, at 875-4820, for further details.


Weather Permitting; River Road will be closed Thursday, September 8th, for crossroad culvert replacement, starting at 7AM until Friday, September 9th at 5 PM.  It will be closed at the intersection of Four Bridges Road (CH55).  If you have any questions, please call the Macon County Highway Department at (217) 424-1404.
